Sonata
(1981) - This three movement sonata was dedicated to Harvey
Phillips. The first movement has a rhythmic opening theme
followed by a shorter lyrical idea. The development works both
thematic ideas, greatly expanding each. The second movement is
very song-like. The last movement combines a rondo form in 6/8
with a passacaglia in 3/4. It is recorded by Rommel Cordova, tuba and
John Schmidt, piano on the CD Reflection
Duration 13:00 Grade 4. This work is
published by Tuba-Euphonium
Press.
